Treakle Town Christmas Rinse 2
Christmas, you either love or hate it, but one thing it does provide is the excuse for is a good knees up & few pale ale’s. Not that any of us ever settle for a few!
Saturday afternoon we headed down to the Windmill Social Club to set the Disco gear up & have a few beers as a practice for later. With the P.A. & lights set up it was time for a test. What shall we play, Northern? Punk? Ska? No! Rolf Harris!! It’s amazing what you can wreck to when you put your mind to it.
With everything working as it should & the obligatory complaint from the management about the noise, we set off back home to get some proper drinking done to get ourselves in the mood for later, agreeing to meet back at the club for 7pm to get the final preparations done.
7 O’clock saw me & Trina freezing outside, the club all being locked up & no sign of anyone. I was just beginning to fear the worst when Dave Porter & Fiona a.k.a. Scooter Goth pull up so we spent a few moments chatting with them before the rest of Treakle arrived and we gained access to the club.
We’d all been talking about coming in fancy dress, but when it comes to the night most people make excuses & there’s one maybe two that make the effort. We were not to be disappointed. Everyone made the effort & there were some great costumes as you’ll see from the photos, but the one that really stood out was Alex’s. On first look I thought he’d come as Dracula, this being made even more amusing as he drives a vintage Hearse, however when he opened his cape an all together more Rocky Horror Picture Show look came into being. Only the photo’s can do this any kind of justice but you should be at least 18 (or 21 in some states) to view. Alex, you’re a brave chap!
Party time! First of the resident Treakle Tunes DJ’s was Leg End Les playing an enjoyable set of Northern Soul & R’nB with a mixture of old faves & few I’d never heard before.
Before long it was my turn to spin the drastic plastic & having enjoyed Les’s set so much I really didn’t know how to follow on. So I just played my usual set of Ska, Psychobilly & Indie type stuff that went down fairly well judging by the dance floor.
With the room filling up with familiar faces it was time to hand over to Scooter Goth, and with a quick training session on how to use the decks I left her to play her set whilst I got a few more pints down my neck & wait for the raffle.
Usually the club members buy the raffle prizes but the decision was taken to buy them out of club funds this time round. We also received some very kind donations of 2 Scooterist Internet Radio goody bags from Dave & Fiona Plus the 3 Aces SC donated a crate of Lager & a new Crash Helmet, which was won by Kitch from the White Lions.
Raffle over & Dave Porter took to the decks to do his radio show. Think Radio 1 Road Show but with better music & no screaming kids.
The final hour approaching & it was back to Treakle Tunes resident DJ Gordon, A.K.A. Spongeybollox. Things get very fuzzy at the this point so I don’t really remember much from here on in but the threatened final song by Rene & Renata didn’t materialise, maybe next time.
Another fantastic night over. Everyone enjoyed themselves & there were several shouts for us to carry on, but with the management from the club wanting us to clear out we reluctantly finished our drinks & slowly went home.
Treakle Town Scooter Club would like to say a big thank you to Dave & Fiona from Scooterist Internet Radio for the guest DJ spots, 3 Aces S.C for the donations to the raffle & a massive thank you to everyone who came, as well as everyone who’s supported us throughout the year.
See you all on the Rallies.
Keep it Treakle
