Treakle 2nd Anniversary Do, Co-op Club Nuneaton

So the club that everyone laughed at saying it would go nowhere had made it to its second year. We’ve made some great friends along the way & the club continues to grow & grow. NOW WHO’S LAUGHING!

…………….Continued from Penny & Gordon’s Wedding day………………………

Trying to do a write up after ‘A Good Night’ is a bit difficult but here goes……….

With all the equipment set up & the room starting to get its first visitors I’m told I’m doing the graveyard shift. Arrrrrrrrrrrgh! To be honest it turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise as I was rather wobbly to say the least. After sorting out a few minor technical matters (mainly due to the state I was in) a wobbly set of Ska, Reggae Oi! & Psychbilly followed. There seemed little point playing much other stuff at that time as its better to save the top tunes for later when everyone’s got there dancing trousers switched on. I was just beginning to get my head round what I was trying to do when it was time for the first band.

The Joneses played an excellent set of  M*d & Indie type tunes & seemed to go down well, even though the room was still fairly quiet.

Leg End Les took over afterwards & soon had a near full dance floor for his Northern Soul set, proving that Les is more. The best thing about having such a huge dance floor was the fact you actually had space to dance for once instead of the pocket hankerchief size area you get at a rally. Thankfully there was no Talc on the floor as I think I’d have been on the dance floor literally!

Now it was time for the second band of the evening, The Ballistics. With the room starting to fill up a little more there were plenty of people up dancing. I’m not really a fan of white Ska bands but these guys were really good & enjoyed dancing to most of their set.

With the party now in full swing Gordon a.k.a. Spongeybollox Square Pants took over the DJ duties with his usual mix of some thing old, something new something stolen & what the hells this! There were plenty of tunes to wreck to. I’m of the opinion that if you go in to the wrecking pit  & get injured well you only have yourself to blame. With all the pushing & shoving & arms flailing around, at some point someone’s gonna get you a good en. However I was a bit stunned when Kev the M*d bangs into me. We spent the next 5 minutes apologising to each other, Kev holding his nose & me my ear.. It was only on the Tuesday afterwards I find out it wasn’t my fault after all & that Porn King Brendan had shoved Kev. I was fully convinced it was my fault!

While we were all partying, unbeknown to most of us there was a bit of hassle from the owners of the club over the terms of use & what we had paid for, with Penny arguing one thing & them another. Turns out we were right & they were wrong. Sadly it took a trip back to Treakle HQ for Penny & Michelle to get the contract to prove it. Treakle 1 Co-op 0.

Enjoy yourself, its later than you think! The day & evening do had gone so quickly I was a bit disappointed when the last tune of the evening was played & we were told to go home. The club management couldn’t wait to get us out so we packed up the gear as quickly as we could to collect it tommorrow & made our way home.

Another fantastic day over. If this is a sign of what 2007 is to be about then bring it on, its gonna be a corker.

Thanks again to everyone who attended both do’s. Its having friends like you guys that make things like this all worth it. On the scooter scene there’s no such thing as strangers, just people you haven’t Treakled yet.

See you on the rallies & ride safely
