Treakle Town Scooter Club 3rd Anniversary 2 February 2008
When your having fun you really don’t realise how fast time has passed. In three years Treakle has grown from 3 members to over 30. This last 12 months the club really has gone from strength to strength. Time for a right old knees up to celebrate then. The fist anniversary do was good, the second better & tonight, well does it get any better?
Tonight was to be another special anniversary, as it was Penny & Gordon’s first wedding anniversary. Congratulations you pair, you make a great couple.
We arrived at the Ansley social club to find Penny, Gordon, Pissy, Lisa, Brew Kit & Elaine just arriving. I was all ready to help get everything sorted for opening time to find it had already been done. Result!
Time for a quick pint & a catch up with the rest of the club, then its my turn on the decks. Gordon Just wanted me to play Ska & Reggae so I obliged quite happily. That is until the left hand CD player started crackling when you went anywhere near it. Treat it gently it’ll be fine I thought & I managed to get away with it for a while. But towards the end it was getting really bad & I was glad I only had a few more tunes left. Then disaster strikes. Silence! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! To some it may have been welcome as Ska isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, plus the amp was in Spinal Tap mode, turned up to 11. I thought it was the decks, but it turned out The amp had switched itself off! In between Me & Gord trying to sort the P.A. out we managed to get our excellent band for the night Betty Swollocks to do a quick half hour set. Betty Swollocks for those who didn’t get to see them are probably the best Punk covers band on the circuit. A real mixture of top tunes & non of the soft stuff either. A full on assault. They soon had the dance floor filled with people wrecking & generally going mad. It was going to be a great night.
With the bands first set over Gordon took over playing the tunes, having sorted the amp out by just turning it off & then back on! Git! Wish I’d thought of that.
By now the room was really starting to fill, with busses of other clubs coming
down & really swelling the already busy room.
Betty Swollocks second set was soon upon us. This time the assault was visual as well as audible. Their smoke machine must have been on time & a half, making the lighting interesting but taking photo’s near impossible. A blinding (literally) second set finished with the club anthem So What by the Anti Nowhere League. The entire club were up wrecking at this point & it became clear that little Kaz & Penny were making a bee line for me. I think Pen was trying to prove she is mightier than the sword! I was quite glad when it finished, I’d forgotten how unfit I am. Plus fighting with girls really doesn’t do your image much good, such that it is!
Time for the party to get into its final phase, with Gordon playing a mixture of Treakle faves. Then shock horror and after much teasing, 45 minutes of Northern Soul, which seemed to go down well as the floor was near full. I decided a trip outside was in order & so on my way out I find Lisa & Allan in the other room dancing to the tunes the other DJ was playing. You know the sort of DJ that frequent working men’s clubs & the like. More cheese than the Sainsburys deli counter. Neil Diamond, how could you?? But it didn’t end there & I’ve video evidence to prove it };-> Remember Lady Marmalade you pair ??? Oh yes Kodak never lies he he he.
Back in the main room & a more sensible selection of music was being played, with plenty of wrecking to be had. There was a great buzz in the room & the end came around all to soon. Why don’t days at work go that quick?
Another top night. Big thank you to The M*d & Pipe for doing the door & a Huge thanks go to Ripley Harriers, Cannock Crusaders, Burton Brewers, B5000’s & all the other clubs who came and supported us. Sorry If I’ve missed anyone. You all made probably the best Treakle night ever & look forward to partying with you on the runs this year.
How many sleeps till the next one?
