Treakle, what can I say that really hasn’t been echoed by my Treakle Bruvva’ s & Sisters? Well, normally people ask to join a club, I was told I was joining & it seemed rude not to really. Me & Trina had been doing Rallies & Do’s largely by our self since 1999 & whilst we’d made loads of friends from round the country at rallies, we’d never really found a club for us. We were members of the Brumageon J6 Scooter Association for a few months & whilst the guys there were great & hopefully still friends, we really weren’t doing much as a group. Nobody was really interested in doing rallies or ride outs which are surely what being a scooterist is all about ? The Birmingham scene is totally M*d orientated so there really is very little of interest for me. So whilst Me & Trina were at one of the Pacemakers do’s we met up with Little Kaz, someone we’d met a few times before out & about. Kaz had no hesitation in plugging the Treakle Christmas Rinse & relieving us of our cash for the tickets. So on the night of the Christmas Rinse we eventually found the frozen barn & went in, not really knowing what we’d find. The first thing that struck me was the welcome we got & how friendly everyone was. The barn was freezing (no really it was!!!) , the welcome was warm. We had a cracking night. It was so refreshing to hear Ska, Reggae, Psychobilly & Punk being played as you don’t get that at any do’s in Birmingham. It was almost like a dream sequence, a kind of died & gone to heaven type episode. I was gutted when we had to say our good bye’s for the night (and even more gutted to find out thy were doing Everards Original in the OTHER bar,Doh!) but sent an E-mail to Gordon the next day saying what a brilliant night we’d both had & to let us know if they were doing any other do’s. Not long after I got a message about the first anniversary do. Nothing would have kept me away that night. I knew I was going to have a brilliant night & from what I remember (which isn’t much J ) it was. Again, as we walked through the door we got the same genuine welcome & a free CD! Big foot marched over & told us we were to see Gordon & get a membership form & we were joining!. I found this quite amusing as a form just seemed to organised for this lot J, but none the less a few days later the form was completed & we were in. The 6 months or so since I’ve been with Treakle have been some of the best Scootering moments to date. Treakle’s strength is the fact that it’s very accepting. Everyone is welcome to join us for a Beer or 12 & a laugh. We take people as we find them & have a sense of fun that’s often lacking in many other clubs. Life’s what you make it, why not enjoy it. If you see Treakle Village on the next rally come over for a Beer & a chat. We’d love to meet you.
